The RVIA (RV Industry Association) announced that it has hired Mindy Smith as its new senior manager for Public Relations.

Smith graduated with a Master’s in Public Affairs in 2012 and began her career working with the Girl Scouts, where she was responsible for marketing, public relations and curriculum development. During her eight-year tenure with the Girl Scouts, Smith also worked with The North Face to create partnerships for girls, the Girl Scouts and volunteers.

After that, Smith entered public relations and the outdoor industry, working for Darby Communications, a PR and digital marketing firm representing outdoor “pursuit-driven brands,” which led her to work with SylvanSport, a Darby client, RVIA member and manufacturer of adventure trailers, outdoor gear and camping accessories. The company, as reported by Smith, “encouraged [her] to learn more about the RV industry.”

“I grew up camping in a pop-up camper with my parents,” Smith said, adding that she began camping in Western North Carolina at five. “It was my gateway to working in the outdoor and RV industries … being part of something bigger than me, which is the outdoor industry and access to our national parks, public lands, trails, and campgrounds.”

As RVIA’s Senior Manager of Public Relations, Smith is responsible for media monitoring and strategy development to determine what public relations campaigns and pitching strategies will yield results that create a genuine interest in the RV lifestyle.
